How to use video to evoke emotions in your audience
Videos are powerful tools for storytelling and communication. They can capture the attention of your audience, convey your message, and persuade them to take action.
But how can you use videos to evoke emotions in your audience? And why is that important for marketing purposes?
Emotions are the driving force behind human behavior.
Emotions influence our decisions, preferences, and actions.
When we feel an emotion, we are more likely to remember, share, and act on the information that triggered it. Therefore, if you want to connect with your audience and motivate them to buy your product or service, you need to make them feel something.
But how can you make your audience feel something with a video?
It’s really quite simple—this is accomplished by designing the elements of your video to create a mood that will resonate with your audience. Here are some examples of an emotion/feeling paired with a complimentary video idea.
Wanderlust: If you want to inspire your audience to travel or explore new places, you can use videos that showcase beautiful landscapes, exotic cultures, or adventurous activities. You can also use music, narration, or text that convey a sense of wonder and excitement.
Love: If you want to make your audience feel love or romance, you can use videos that feature couples, families, or friends who share affectionate moments. You can also use colors, lighting, or filters that create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Happiness: If you want to make your audience feel happy or joyful, you can use videos that feature positive events, achievements, or celebrations. You can also use bright colors, upbeat music, or humor that create a cheerful and energetic vibe.
Nostalgia: If you want to make your audience feel nostalgic or sentimental, you can use videos that feature memories, traditions, or history. You can also use sepia tones, vintage effects, or nostalgic music that create a retro and nostalgic feel.
Amusement: If you want to make your audience feel amused or entertained, you can use videos that feature jokes, pranks, or surprises. You can also use animation, sound effects, or exaggeration that create a fun and playful tone.
Fear: If you want to make your audience feel fear or suspense, you can use videos that feature threats, dangers, or mysteries. You can also use dark colors, dramatic music, or fast cuts that create a tense and scary atmosphere.
Curiosity: If you want to make your audience feel curious or intrigued, you can use videos that feature questions, puzzles, or secrets. You can also use close-ups, zooms, or teasers that create a sense of mystery and anticipation.
By using these techniques, you can create videos that evoke emotions in your audience and make them more engaged and receptive to your message. And that's how you can use videos to boost your marketing efforts and achieve your goals.

I’m starting a new video reel series called “Evoke Feeling with Video” — check out the first reel!
#WANDERLUST — Inspired by a 2019 trip to Iceland with my wife. You can see her appear twice in the reel. First, hiking in front of me at Kerid (the volcanic crater lake); and then second, the last shot in the reel is both of us walking along a gorgeous rural road on the AirBnB property we stayed during our final few nights.
